Tomato processing unit

Tomato's market @ Madanapalli which is 100 kms away from B'lore and one of the major tomato markets in Chittoor district of AP. Around 700 tons (normally, &  ~1000 tons in peak) of tomato come to Madanapalli market & exported these tomato's to big cities: Hyderabad, Chennai, north India. Challenge is price variation from ~One rupee to  ~Rs. 20 / kg !!

Similar markets are there near (50 kms dia) by Madanapalli, they are: Chinnamandem/Rayachoti (200 tons), Kalikiri/Vayalpad/Piler, Tirupati (250 tons), Punganur (200 ton's), Chintamani (200 ton's), Mulbagal / sankarapuram (300 tons) & so on...

Impact: ~50,000 families and 2500 brokers, plus customers :)
Challenge: Thousands of formers spend huge amount of money (40 k / acre) to grow Tomato's and rates fluctuates day to day / weekly !! How to stabilize the rates !?

Any solution: Nice if there is any solution from IBM or Govt.'s. Rate / crop regularisation is one solution, Food processing is another solution, I think of.
Business Opportunities: food processing industry, Cold storages

Tomato processing:
To solve Tomato formers issue, Govt. or entrepreneur's should establish massive food processing units to balance prices across year. Currently few food processing units run in Chittoor district but low capacity & managed by politicians i.e. they try to cheat on prices :(
  • Location: Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh, India
    • Any where where land, labor are economical & easy to reach !!
  • Cost Estimation:
    1. Land ( 2 - 3 acres) : Rs. 50 L
    2. Buildings / Sheds : < yet to est>
    3. Machinery:< yet to est>
    4. Labor:  < yet to est>
    5. Explore availability of existing processing unit & ready for sale !!
  • Marketing: New Branding (or) Via existing Brand vendors
  • Capital: ~5 to 8 Cr
    • Multi stake holders: 5 - 20
    • Bank loan / NABARD
  • Type of Products can be processed:  [Refer references # 1]
    1. Dried tomatoes
    2. Tomato pulp
    3. Tomato puree or paste
    4. Tomato juice and squash
    5. Tomato jam
    6. Tomato ketchup
    7. Tomato leather
    8. Tomato Pickles
    9. Green tomato chutney

News on 9th Jan 2018:

News on 20th Jan 2018:
  • Tomato prices dropped to 25 - 50 paisa per Kg in Madanapalli....today !!
  • My recent visit given me opportunity to find how they are looted by all:
  • Issue with Paddy - Rice they grown last two years still not sold due to rate or no one buying. 75 kgs bag ~1000-1200 !!
  • Issue with Milk - We have few options - Heritage, ShivaSakti, Dodla collects milk from farmers. One pays Rs. 21 - 23/- and another Rs. 22 - 25/- per litre (mainly from Sept - Feb )
  • Vegetables: Terrible story............mullangi - Rs. 5/- , Bendi - Rs. 7/- kg, Brinjal - Rs. 8/- kg like that....they are not getting even their cost.
  • Finally Flowers: check in Madanapalli .....Rs. 15-20/- kg flowers.
  • So, we need to find best solutions to Farmers... !!😢
  • The questions we should ask:
    • Where is Govt ? If Govt is not doing ?? Then
    • what are our MLAs in these area's doing, mainly Chittoor dist ???
    • Are (people) we asking them to setup - cold storages ???
    • What's their (MLA's) duties ??? Did any MLA did any major work ??
